Join Nicole Boenig-McGrade for a two-day interactive and hands-on workshop at Elevator Digital in June 2008 - to explore the art of natural light portraiture and how to create emotive, soulful portraits.
You will learn about the key technical elements to a successful portrait and more importantly, about interacting with the person no matter what age, to attempt to bring out their true character. How to use natural lighting to create different moods within a portrait, dealing with the different aspects of photographing various age groups, expression and explore how personal and important you, the photographer, are and what you represent in your own work.
What you can expect:
- Learn the technical aspects (lighting, metering and composition)
- Photograph purely with natural lighting and no artificial, flash studio lighting.
- Learn how to work with difficult natural lighting and in low light
- How to work with single and multiple subjects
- Discover the beauty (and challenges) of photographing people, including Photographing children
- Explore the emotional and personal side to portrait photography
- Being an interactive and hands-on workshop, it has been designed to allow plenty of time for questions, discussion and taking portraits outdoors and/or indoors (depending on the weather elements).
- Small groups make for better learning. Strictly limited to 12 participants.
What you need to bring:
- Camera (digital preferred for instant feedback - although Nicole is a film advocate).
- Lenses
- Film (400-3200) or... Memory Cards for your digital and necessary charged batteries
- Three printed photographs for review
- Reflector (optional)
- Handheld meter (optional)
Who should attend:
This workshop is for anyone wanting to expand their horizons in the emotional side of portrait photography, whether you're an amateur or a professional photographer. It is important that you understand how to use your camera before attending this workshop.
